Sam Blaz was born and raised in San Jose, California. Throughout high school she trained in Cheryl Copeland’s pre-professional company with an emphasis on modern dance and had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Cindy Salgado and Shaneeka Harell. In May 2017, she completed her training at Loyola Marymount University where she received a BA in Dance. Over the course of her four years she worked and trained with choreographers such as Rosalynde LeBlanc, Cherice Barton, and Lillian Barbeito. She has also spent a month training at the Hubbard Street Summer Program where she learned and performed repertoire from pieces by Alejandro Cerrudo and Nacho Duato, and time training at the BODYTRAFFIC Summer Program where she worked with Winifred Burnet Smith of Hofesh Shechter Company and reconnected with Cindy Salgado of Kidd Pivot. In 2016, Sam was featured in the famous Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane piece, “D-Man in the Waters”, and the documentary “D-Man”, which shares the story of the original piece.
